What Does Yoga Mean?

In Sanskrit, the word ‘yoga’ means union. What a beautiful way to describe the physical and subtle bodies coming together. It reminds me of why I started Back 2 Your Body Yoga in the first place. I wanted to offer my students with chronic pain or chronic illness, who have likely felt out of touch with their body to be able to use breath work and movement as a way to create union within their physical and subtle bodies.

In a recent yoga teacher training weekend, we discussed what yoga meant to each of us. We all gave various answers such as healing, connection, stretching, etc. The common theme we all shared was that yoga always circled back to the idea of union and bringing everything together. I guess the yogis from many, many years ago had it right all along!
